Art Deco Weekend Napier 2020
Following a massive earthquake (7.9 on the Richter scale) on the morning of Tuesday 3 February 1931, fires destroyed most of the commercial heart of Napier.
The city was rebuilt in the style of Art Deco and by the end of the decade Napier was the newest city on the globe.
Every year in mid February members of the Military Reenactment Society head along to Hawkes Bay for the Napier Art Deco festival. From small beginnings in 1989, The festival offers members with a American or British dress uniform a chance to strut their stuff and show off a piece of military dress that would otherwise be seldom seen.
The Art Deco Festival is characterised by having a somewhat retro style in their events, with lots of jazz music, classic dancing, the finest art of the Deco movement and many other elements.
